Mirwaiz says ‘Delhi cannot force us into submission’, protest rally held after Friday prayers

Srinagar: A large number of people on Friday marched from Jamia Masjid in old city Srinagar to Mirwaiz Manzil at Rajouri Kadal against National Investigation Agency summoning chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

According to eye witnesses the protest march included men, women and children who marched while raising slogans in favour of Mirwaiz.

They were raising slogans condemning the NIA action and the ban on socio religious organisaton Jama’at-e-Islami.

It was after two weeks that authorities have allowed the congregational Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid were Mirwaiz delivers the sermon.

We shall not be intimidated by New Delhi, Mirwiaz said in his sermon, seeking a peaceful resolution of Kashmir is not terrorism.

“For last more than 70 years conspiracies were hatched against Kashmiris, leadership and the pulpit of Jamia Masjid and the struggle for self-determination continued despite these assaults.”

He said that the people of Kashmir will not bow down and Delhi can’t “force us into submission by intimidating us”.
