Anantnag: Shutdown is being observed in Anantnag town against the harassment of Kashmiris in Jammu on Friday by the protesters.

According to locals many of the vehicles vandalised yesterday belong to south Kashmir.

Almost 80-100 vehicles were torched and some were set ablaze by protesters who tried to fuel communal tensions between two communities.

Protesters on Saturday morning assembled in Lal Chowk Anantnag and protested against what they callled a ‘callous attitude by police’.

“In Kashmir they resort to force to all extend on protesters but when 100 vehicles were damaged and many of them put to fire not a single person has been arrested, no cane charging and it looked like they enjoyed watching attacks on Kashmiris,” protesters said.

According to eyewitnesses later police arrived at the main town and clashes erupted in the area.

Protesters are demanding strict action against ‘rioters’.
