Shopian: Police on Sunday ordered an enquiry to “sincerely look into the conduct of the policemen” seen in a video purportedly manhandling a woman during a raid in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
While it ordered an inquiry, police has also filed a case against the family of the woman for voluntarily causing hurt and assault on its men to deter them from discharging duty.
Police in a statement said that its party had gone to Shadab Karewa village in the district to effect arrest of two persons in connection with alleged kidnapping of a “15-year-old girl” after complaint by teenaged girl’s father.
“On reaching there, the police couldn’t recover the kidnapped girl but found two accused persons namely Mohsin Khan and his father Saleem Khan in the house,” police said.
While trying to effect the arrest of these accused, the police said, the other family members “including women attacked police party with intention to prevent/deter the police from effecting lawful arrest of these accused persons, and successfully made one accused namely Mohsin Khan to escape from house.”
“Due to the attack by the family members of accused persons, three policemen got injured. A case FIR no 21/2019 u/s PRC sections of 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharging lawful duty) and 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) stands registered in this regard,” police said, adding that it was a lawful raid and the family members tried to obstruct Police from performing their legal duties.
“In light of the emergence of the concerned video, we have ordered an enquiry to sincerely look into the conduct of the concerned policemen.”
