The Minister stated that the decision has been taken in continuation of the Government’s sustained efforts to augment healthcare infrastructure and ensure delivery of quality medical services to the people. She highlighted that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the construction works of the 120-bedded additional block at Bone & Joint (B&J) Hospital were expedited on priority and subsequently dedicated to public service.

She informed that medical services in the additional block were initially managed through internal arrangements and rational deployment of available manpower to ensure uninterrupted patient care.

Recognizing the growing patient load and the need for specialised human resources, she said that the Health and Medical Education Department undertook a comprehensive assessment of staffing requirements.

The Health Minister said that the Council of Ministers, headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approved the creation of 64 posts for the hospital across various categories to strengthen institutional capacity and streamline service delivery at the hospital.

“This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment not only towards creation of modern healthcare infrastructure but also towards ensuring that such facilities are adequately staffed, fully functional and accessible to the public,” the Minister said.

The sanctioned posts cater to multiple medical and allied specialities and include technical, ministerial, administrative and support staff positions essential for efficient functioning of the hospital. These include Senior Residents in Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology and Microbiology, along with Resident Medical Officers, Casualty Medical Officers, nursing staff, technicians, administrative personnel and other supporting staff.
