Last body recovered from Jawahar Tunnel avalanche, toll 8

Srinagar: The final death toll from an avalanche at Jawahar Tunnel is eight as rescuers pulled out body of the only missing policeman from the rubble of a police post crushed by the heavy snow avalanche on Thursday.
Reports said body of Parvaiz Ahmad Mir (Belt No. SGCT 220/ KGM) Son of Ghulam Mohd Mir of Arampora area of Ganderbal district was found from the debris by the rescuers on Saturday morning. The rescuers comprising police, local volunteers and member of SDRF besides government forces digging through police post buried under tonnes of snow that came barrelling down a mountainside on north portal of Jawahar Tunnel found three policemen alive yesterday and they included Mohammed Khalil (SPO), Ghulam Nabi alias Gulzar (SPO) and Mohammad Maqbool, a selection grade police constable.
Seven bodies were also retrieved by the rescuers and they have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Parrey (Selection Grade constable), Firdous Ahmad (head constable), Arshad Gul (constable), Muzafer (head constable), Shabnam ( also policeman), Vikram Singh (civilian) son of Kalvender Singh of Salan Talab Udhampore and Baljeet Singh son of Hari Singh of Dera Baba Nanak Gurdaspore Punjab. The duo from Punjab had been arrested two days back with Fuqqi.
The avalanche had hit the north portal of Jawahar Tunnel on the Qazigund side in Kulgam district on Thursday evening.
