Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik led administration has come to rescue valley based GATE aspirants who missed their flights due to bad weather and arranged special, free of cost flights for them and said ‘their career was supreme’.
GATE is an All-India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board -GATE, Department of Education in ministry of human resources development (MHRD).
Valley based students who were scheduled to sit in the exams had to face difficulty as turbulent weather condition hampered air traffic at Srinagar International Airport.
According to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Governor SP Malik took a serious note of the panic students had been going through.
“179 Students flew on Friday and today 180 more students will board the specially arranged C 17 flight that will arrive around 1pm at the airport,” Khan said, adding that the extreme measures were taken to save students career.
In a major relief for the GATE aspirants of Kashmir, the ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has set up six exam centres in Kashmir.
“The GATE aspirants who have to appear in GATE tomorrow and day after (February 9 and 10) will be allotted exam centres among these centres notified by the IIT Madras,” the notification reads.
According to a notification, the GATE exam centre have been set up at Haktech IT service Sidco industrial estate near IT tower Rangreth, KITE polytechnic at Wawoosa Rangreth, Eshai Online Services Bishamber Nagar Munwarabad, Faster Computer Education Rawalpora, Infotech Computer Education and SSM college of engineering and Technology Diver Parihaspora.
