Fresh Snowfall in Kashmir, Gulmarg sees 3 inches of more snow

Srinagar: Parts of Kashmir Valley received light snowfall overnight even as local meteorological department predicted wet weather across Jammu and Kashmir for next 24-hours.
According to a Meteorological Department official, Gulmarg received 3 centimeters of snow while Pahalgam had fresh snowfall of 12cm, Kupwara (7cm), Kokernag (1 cm) and Srinagar saw 3.3 mm (snow converted into rain).
Meanwhile, Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recording a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius,
Pahalgam, which also serves as base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, witnessed a minimum of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius.
The MeT official said Qazigund the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius while the nearby Kokernag town registered a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.
The ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded the minimum temperature of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius while Kupwara recorded a low of minus 0.9 against minus 2.5 degrees Celsius on previous night, he said. The official said that there was possibility of rain and snowfall for next 24-hours.
While ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harshest period of winter, has ended, 20-day long ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (small cold) has started and would be followed by a 10-day long ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold).
