Govt reconstitutes State Medicinal Plants Board

Srinagar: The government on Wednesday re-constituted Jammu and Kashmir State Medicinal Plants
Board under the Chairmanship of Advisor (K) to the Governor (In- charge Health & Medical Education).
With administrative secretary Health & Medical Education as its vice chairman, the Board has been asked to look after policy formulation, coordination with other Departments and ensure sustained availability of medicinal plants, coordinate on all matters relating to the development and sustainable use of medicinal plants, besides checking erosion and degradation of resources and marketing
It has also asked to involve and assign the required matters to the Departments/Organizations engaged in cultivation of medicinal
It’s terms of reference also include to assess the potential of medicinal plants which grow naturally in the State of the J&K; to regulate its own procedure for performing functions as required and even involving NGOs/consultancies to facilitate collection of data, preparation of policy matters and primitive material; To vest the powers including powers to decide qualification, remuneration of consultants (technical/marketing etc.) to be appointed for the Board Office with Administrative Secretan/, Health & Medical Education Department, to decide the matters of urgent nature at his level and get the action confirmed by Board, later on; to make the investments on the renting of space and office equipment within the Budget; to appoint administrative/technical staff for smooth functioning of the Board; viii. To borrow the services of administrative/technical staff from identifiedlrespective departments as may be deemed fit by the Board from time to time on full timelpart time basis and decide their remuneration/honorarium; the Board shall have the authority to constitute Sub-Committees as deemed fit for assisting/providing required expertise on administrative/financial/technical aspects to be drawn out of administrative/technical expertise provided by the concerned Department for respective Committees viz. Committee of Research, Demand and Supply, Finance, Cultivation including conservation of rare and endangered species etc.; the Board may entrust the nodal responsibilities to the Department of Indian System of Medicines, l&K; The Board being the Governing/Advison/ Board of Jammu and Kashmir Vanaspati Van Society shall explore possibility of raising Vanaspati Van ProjecWherbal gardens in different corners of the State and the Board shall co-ordinate with Departments/Organisations/ Central Government for development of medicinal plants sector in the State. The Board shall meet twice a year, reads an order issued in this regard.
