Srinagar: Activists of J&K Democratic Freedom Party on Monday staged a protest at Srinagar’s Press Enclave, demanding release of their party chairman and senior Hurriyat Conference leader Shabir Ahmad Shah.
Carrying banners and placards, the protesters were demanding immediate release of Shah who continues to languish in New Delhi’s Tihar jail. ‘Ailing’ Shah was arrested by NIA from his Sanatnagar residence here in July 2017.
Couple of days back, according to the DFP, Shah was shifted to Kasturi ward of Tihar Jail which is meant for the prisoners whose jail record or behavior towards other inmates or towards jail staff is not good.
“He has been placed in a small cell of the ward where he is unable to even spread his legs while sleeping. Prisoners are shifted to Kasturi ward as punishment and Kashmir’s resistance leader Shabir Shah is virtually being punished in Tihar jail for advocating right to self determination of the people of Jammu Kashmir,” a DFP spokesman had said in a statement issued here on January 12.
