Srinagar: The traffic on the 270-km Srinagar-Jammu Highway, the only road linking Kashmir with rest of the world, remained closed for the second consecutive day due to snowfall on Thursday.
Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded since Wednesday afternoon when authorities suspended the traffic on the thoroughfare as snow rendered it slippery.
“It is still snowing at several places along the highway and opening of traffic would be decided later,” a traffic official told INS.
Reports said that nearly 1,900 vehicles including trucks and light motor vehicles, were stranded after heavy snowfall rendered the road slippery. All the stranded vehicles have been moved to safer places along the highway and would be allowed to move towards their destination if weather permits, the officials said.
