Srinagar: The state congress chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Wednesday said that the congress party will emerge as the single largest party in the upcoming assembly elections, likely to be held in May 2019.
Addressing a news conference after felicitation function for newly elected councilors, Mir said that they believe the Congress party will emerge as the single largest party in the upcoming elections and so far there is no deliberation going on to join hands with other political parties to hold elections together or share seats.
“We are gearing up for the polls and at present there is no possibility of joining hands to go for polls together in the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, adding that in Panchayat polls, Congress also did a tremendous job by sweeping maximum halqas in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
“We are expecting the people will also pin hope on Congress in the next upcoming elections and cast their ballots in our favour,” he said as per INS correspondent.
About the win of Congress in three states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Mir said that people were ready to answer the divisive politics of BJP who failed to fulfill the promises done with the people.
“Congress is the only party committed to establish religious plurality in the country and any party tending to divide the people in the country will have to face the fate BJP faced today in the five states,” he said.
About emerging third front, Mir while reacting to a query regarding the competition in the upcoming polls said that there is no fight with the third front. “It is you (media persons) who think so but on ground there is nothing like that,” he added.
