Fresh snow blankets Gulmarg as night temperatures rise in Kashmir

Srinagar: While fresh snowfall blanketed Gulmarg and higher reaches of Kashmir, the night temperature rose across the Valley with Srinagar recording a low of 5.2 degrees Celsius, weatherman said on Wednesday.
A meteorological department official told INS that at 5.2 degrees Celsius, the summer capital of the state was four degrees above normal for this time of the year.
The night temperature also rose to minus 3.0 degree Celsius in Gulmarg, normal for the skiing resort during this time of the year, he said. A fresh layer of snow has blanketed Gulmarg and when this report was filed, it was snowing in world famous tourist resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius while southern Kashmir’s Qazigund, the gateway town of Valley, and Kokernag witnessed minimum of 5.2 and 3.7 degree Celsius respectively. The health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recording a low of 1.2 degree Celsius, two degrees above the normal for this time of the year. It has been raining in Kashmir Valley since morning and there are reports about snowfall in higher reaches of the Valley and Pir Panchal range, the official added.
