Srinagar: Widespread rain and snow are set to batter much of Kashmir Valley next week as the meteorological department here issued a “Yellow” weather warning for Tuesday and Wednesday.
“There will increase in precipitation in next few days and there is possibility of fairly widespread rain or snow on Monday,” a meteorological department official said, adding, “there is possibility of widespread rain or snowfall on November 13.” The weatherman has also issued yellow alert for “isolated heavy rain/snow” on Wednesday and Thursday.
There are four types colour codes signifying the level of caution: green (which means no action), yellow (situation to be watched), amber (government agencies be prepared for severe weather) and red (action needed by the agencies).
Meanwhile, the day temperature across the Valley continued to hover below normal for this time of the year.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recorded the maximum of 13.4 degrees Celsius, 4.5 degrees Celsius below the normal for this time of the season, the weather official said.
He said the famous health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir registered maximum of 13.2 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees less from normal for the season. The official said the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 8.5 degrees Celsius while Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley, in south registered day temperature as 16.4 degrees Celsius. Kupwara, in north, recorded a maximum of 13.4 degrees Celsius.
The mercury in Kokernag town in south Kashmir rose to 13.4 degrees Celsius as it had low of 2.6 degrees Celsius, he said.
