Pulwama: One of the two militants killed in an encounter in Pulwama district on Saturday had secured whopping 92 percent marks in graduation and was a close associate of Manan Wani, the scholar-turned Hizb commander who was slain in a gunfight with government forces in his native Kupwara district on October 11 this year.
The 20-year-old Liyaqat’s father, Munir Ahmad Wani alias colonel Jameel was allegedly in custody by government forces following arrest after remaining active for seven years in 90s.
Liyaqat’s mother died due to cardiac arrest when Liyaqat was one year child. His brother Imtiyaz is doing post graduation in History.
At least five rounds of funeral prayers were held for Liyaqat in which thousands of people participated before he was laid to rest around 5 p.m. in local graveyard amid pro-freedom slogans.
