One way traffic allowed on Srinagar-Leh road, stranded vehicles to move first

Srinagar: Authorities on Friday allowed only stranded vehicles to move along Srinagar-Leh highway. The road was opened after remaining closed for eight consecutive days.

DySP Traffic ganderbal Fahim Ali told INS that clearance have been given to let traffic pass.

“Army convoy will first move from Kargil to Srinagar with Chain blocks that will break any slippery roads, or freezed snow. After that stranded vehicles will be allowed to move towards srinagar,” Ali said.

Officials told media that  stranded vehicles in Drass, Meenmarg, Kargil and Leh mostly carrying passengers, tourists and Srinagar bound empty trucks will be allowed to move towards Sonamarg.

The high altitude road was closed after heavy snowfall led to landslides and slippery roads.
