A photojournalist said that the forces personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police thrashed photojournalists working with different media organizations while they were performing their duties near the gunfight site in Fateh Kadal.

“We were clicking pictures of the gunfight site and suddenly a group of STF and SoG came and started beating us. Later a police party joined them and we all were beaten to a pulp,” he said. The incident has left many photojournalists injured.

Meanwhile, the Kashmir Press Club (KPC) has condemned the thrashing of journalists by the police.

“Many reporters and photojournalists were beaten up while they were delivering their professional duties this morning. One of the injured journalists is also a member of the executive team of KPC,” said a spokesman of the KPC, in a statement.

“It is also being reported that the thrashing took place right in front of senior police officers. The KPC has expressed shock over this behavior by the forces. It hopes that the state administration will take a note of this and act,” said the statement.
