Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir have constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the “loot of weapons” from the official residence of PDP lawmaker Ajaz Mir in Srinagar.
The police had earlier said that it has identified the civilian who helped the Special Police Officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir police in the “loot”.
On September 28, 2018 an SPO decamped with seven AK-47 rifles and a licensed pistol from the official residence of Mir in Srinagar’s high-security zone.
Police sources said that the SIT will be headed by superintendent of police (South Srinagar). He said that SP will be at liberty to visit any southern district to “corroborate evidences collected so far” and quiz any suspect.
If need arises, they said, the SIT will also question the PDP legislator to ensure fool-proof investigations into the incident “which has been taken seriously at the highest level.”
Adil Bashir Sheikh, a native of Zainpora Shopian, was part of the security detail of PDP MLA from Shopian’s Wachi constituency Ajaz Mir.
A day later on September 29, the Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Dilbagh Singh said that the Special Police Officer involved in weapon heist was in contact with militants across the Line of Control.
Singh said that the SPO had come in contact with the militants and that the police are working on many leads.
On the same day, police and other investigation agencies also questioned the personal security officers lawmaker Aijaz Mir.
The Personal security officer of Mir had Friday afternoon 28 September approached police station Rajbagh and stated that the weapons of seven PSOs attached with the legislator were missing from his official residence in Jawahar Nagar—the area housing official residences of officers and legislators.
