Srinagar: Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday emphasized, in meeting with Peoples Democratic Party senior leader and former finance minister Altaf Bukhari, the “crucial importance” of making grass root level democratic institutions vibrant for bringing about holistic development of towns and villages.”

A spokesman of the Raj Bhavan in a statement issued here said Altaf Bukhari, who is also MLA Amira Kadal extended warm greetings to Governor Malik on his appointment as Governor of J&K.

Bukhari, who met the Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today, apprised him about a range of issues relating to development of his Constituency and initiatives taken for public welfare.

Governor and Bukhari discussed about the steps required to provide opportunities to the youth to hone their skills in the arenas of sports and  cultural activities, the statement said.

“Governor emphasized the crucial importance of making grass root level democratic institutions vibrant for bringing about holistic development of towns and villages,” the governor said.

He urged Bukhari to continue his sustained endeavours for  promoting peace and development in the State.
