Fresh snowfall in parts of south Kashmir, Drass records season’s coldest night at minus 28.7 Deg Cel

Srinagar: Parts of south Kashmir received fresh snowfall even as Drass town in Ladakh recorded its season’s coldest night so far with mercury plummeted to as low as minus 28.7 degrees Celsius there while Pahalgam, the famous hill resort, witnessed a low of minus 13.0 Degrees Celsius to be the coldest place in Valley.
A meteorological department official said that Pahalgam also saw fresh snowfall of one centimeter in last 24-hours till 0830 hours while Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, witnessed 10 centimeters of snowfall during the time and recorded a low of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius while Kokernag, also in south Kashmir saw minus 6.9 degrees Celsius. Batote on Srinagar-Jammu highway witnessed 2 centimeters snow and recorded minimum of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 1.4 degrees Celsius while it was minus 12.0 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg. Kupwara in north Kashmir witnessed minimum of minus 6.5 degrees Celsius, the official said.
Leh town recorded a low of minus 15.5 degrees Celsius and Kargil minus 20.7 while Jammu city recorded minimum of 4.1 degrees Celsius, Katra town 3.8 degrees Celsius, Bannihal minus 2.5 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, the official added.
The weatherman has predicted fresh widespread rain and snowfall on January 31.
