others included senior members and former Ministers representing the National Conference, Peoples Democratic party and Indian National Congress and, besides, prominent representatives of the Sikh Community and leaders of business, trade and travel groups.

On behalf of the delegation, Farooq thanked Vohra for his able “guidance, sage advice and sincere service to the State during his over ten year tenure in the Raj Bhavan,” an official spokesman said in a statement issued here.

Dr. Abdullah’s sentiments were strongly supported by Mehbooba who thanked Vohra for having guided and advised her on all occasions, particularly after her father passed away, the spokesman added.

Other speakers also expressed appreciation of the constructive and pro-people role played by Vohra, particularly in regard to his handling various sensitive issues relating to J&K.

Dr. Abdullah stated that if more time had been available, representatives  of political parties and representatives of various other segments from different parts of the State, including Ladakh, would have also come to bid farewell to the former Governor in a befitting manner. Speaking on behalf of the delegation Dr. Abdullah and Mehbooba hoped that the former Governor would continue to act as the “State’s Ambassador” in the coming time.

Vohra thanked Dr. Abdullah, Ms Mufti and all members of the group who had graciously come to meet him and for their kind good words, the spokesman said. Recalling his very long involvement with J&K’s affairs he assured that he would be very happy to further the interests of the State, whenever he had a opportunity to do so.
