Article 35A: Baramulla Coordination Committee holds sit-in

Baramulla: A Joint Coordination Committee Baramulla held a peaceful sit-in protest demonstration at Main Chowk Baramulla against the attempts to abrogate Article 35A. The Joint Coordination Committee comprising Bar Association Baramulla, Traders Federation, Civil Society, Transporters Association, Teachers Forum, Working Journalist Association and many other firms of town held a protest demonstration at main Chowk of Baramulla town against the petitions in the Supreme court, challenging the validity of Article 35A of the Constitution which grants special status to permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir. The protest was against “attempts to dilute the special status of the state Traders Federation President Baramulla Mohammad Ashraf Ganai told media, he said that every kashmiri  would not shy away from “shedding their blood” for protection of the special status granted to the state. During the sit-in protest, they held placards that reading: “dismiss PIL on Article 35A” and “Assault on Article 35A is attack on our existence.” During peaceful protest demonstration, speakers warned government of India that situation will take an ugly turn in Kashmir in case decision goes against the interests of people of Kashmir. Meanwhile following Hurriyat call a complete shutdown was being observed in parts of Northern region of Kashmir.
