Youth involved in Lolab ‘rifle snatching’ arrested in Kupwara: Police

Kupwara: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a youth who was allegedly involved in rifle snatching from a policeman at Khandhar area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara District on July 31.

The arrested youth has been identified as Tawseef Ahmad of Shatmuqam Lolab. While confirming the arrest DySP Headquarter Kupwara Yasir Parray said that “on specific inputs police  along with 18RR and 162CRPF launched a search operation in Andarnad forests of Lolab Kupwara and arrested one Tawseef Ahmad of Shatmuqam, the man behind the rifle snatching incident.”

He said Tawseef was absconding since the rifle snatching incident took place and was hiding in the forests from past couple of days.

On Thursday, two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Bilal Ahmad Shah of Lolab were killed in a brief shootout in Khumriyal area and police said the snatched rifle was recovered from them.
