Clashes in Kalaroos, Chaiwan Kupwara, two local militants killed in ambush

Kupwara: Protest and clashes have erupted in Kalaroos and chaiwan areas of Kupwara district after two local militants were killed in a shootout on Thursday.

According to locals as the news of Bilal Shah from Shart Muqam and Zahoor from Kalaroos being killed spread, youth took to streets and clashes with government forces.

According to officials the two were involved in a recent rifle snatching, INSAS from Police at Kandhar area of Maidanpora Lolab  few days back, too has been recovered from them.

Sources said that the duo were travelling in Hyundai accent car and government forces had specific input about their movement.

The gunfight erupted after their car reached the spot were forces were waiting for them and had laid ambush.

“Militants travelling in a vehicle were ambushed by Army 41 RR and SOG Kupwara at Shumriyal,” an official said.

However unconfirmed reports suggest that the driver of the car is still alive.

Spontaneous shutdown is being observed in main market kupwara where army chased people away.
