A spokesman of the Mirwaiz, who was put under house arrest early Monday morning, was released today morning.

He said restrictions on Mirwaiz were imposed to prevent him from leading a protest march yesterday, when Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik had called for a general strike against the killing of civilians by the government forces.

“Security forces deployed outside his Nigeen house have been withdrawn,” he added.

Similarly Malik, who was also taken into preventive custody from his Maisuma house yesterday and lodged in police station Kothibagh, was also released, a spokesman of the front said on Tuesday.
