Jammu, Jun 2 : The transporters of Jammu and Kashmir will go on indefinite strike from June 4 demanding hike in passenger fare in view of rising fuel prices.
Trilochan Singh Wazir, President of All J&K Transport Welfare Association said on Saturday here that Centre is increasing the rate of petroleum products day-by-day and in view of that we demand 50 percent hike in passenger fare.
Because when last time the passenger fare was revised by the State Government the rate of diesel was Rs 56 per litres, which is now has been hiked by the government,” he said.
Mr Singh said the transporters many times had approached to the State Govt for revision in passenger fare and also submitted memorandum but only assurance was given and nothing concrete was done on the ground.
“We have unanimously decided to go on strike from June 4 and no commercial vehicles will ply on road from Lakhanpur to Srinagar,” he added.
