‘Adil wanted to die as martyr’, was killed in clashes with forces on Sunday

May 9: Adil Bashir Ganie, civilian killed on Sunday in Shopian in forces action on protesting youth when militants and Government forces had a faceoff leading to death of five militants and six civilians, including him, ‘cherished to die as a martyr’.

Adil, 26, S/o Bashir Ahmad Ganie and a resident of Mah Gund Ashmuji Kulgam was killed in Badigam Shopain.

Adil’s friend, Shahid (name changed) said that ‘he was soaked in Islam and believed that religion being supreme is core idea of it’.

He was part of valley’s largest Religio-socio-political party Jamat e Islami as ‘Umeed war e rukniyat’, the last step from being a basic cadre of the party established by Moulana Syed Abul Ala Moududi, who propogated ‘establishment of sharia as law of land’.

His friends claim  that Adil was a strict adherent of Islam and would recite Quran daily loudly.

“He had such a sweet voice when he would recite the holy book,” they said.

Adil, according to his friends left CRPF job in 2014 and joined a private school his native village.

“Adil has joined CRPF in 2013 after one year he left the job,” they said.

Adil’s friends confide that he had a wish and cherished to ‘leave this world for hereafter as a Martyr’.

“He accomplished what he had wished and destiny had reserved the fate he demanded for himself,” his friends confide.

Adil’s father is a Mason and among his two brothers, one serves in Jammu and Kashmir Police department, while both of his sisters are yet to be married.

Adil had travelled about 30 kms all the way from Mah Gund Ashmuji Kulgam to Badigam Shopain encounter site and received ‘a bullet on his chest’.

Adil’s family came to know about his death after they received a call that Adil has received a bullet on chest and died in Kulgam Hospital.

Adil is remembered in his native village as an ‘honest man’ who ‘would advice every friend to offer five prayers and read Quran’.

As per locals three rounds of funerals were held for Adil before being laid to rest.
