According to initial reports two armymen have been injured and  have been evacuated to 92 Base Army Hospital in Srinagar, official confirmation is awaited.

Meanwhile Internet has been also suspended in Kulgam.

Government forces on Tuesday night launched cordon and search operations in Wani mohalla locality in Khudwani after inputs about presence of militants there.

As the forces were conducting searches, the hiding militants, believed to be two to three in number fired upon the advancing forces triggering a brief exchange of fire, which resulted in injuries to forces personnel who have been taken to army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar.

“As the word about encounter spread, hundreds of locals came out of their houses and started clashing with the deployed forces in order to aid the militants in breaking the cordon, despite heavy rainfall,” locals said.

After initial exchange of fire around 11 pm last night there was a halt in the operation but the exchange of Gunfire resumed in the morning and is currently going on, said an official.
