Youth arrested in Dialgam while putting oxygen mask on mother, locals

Anantnag: Among the two youths who were detained by army yesterday at Dialgam Anantnag is still in police custody despite assurance yesterday by cops that they will be released on Thursday evening. Picture of an old woman pleading before cops to release detained had gone viral yesterday.

According to locals one of  the detained youth identified as Umar Manzoor s/o Manzoor Ahmad Najar resident of Pethbug dialgam was taking care of his ailing mother when he was arrested.

“His mother is suffering from Tuberclosis and she is usually given Oxygen. Umar was giving oxygen to mother when taken,” locals claimed.

Tensions gripped the area after an army commander came under heavy stone pelting in the area following which army arrested two youth.

“The protesters ran away towards Umar’s house and army  while chasing stone pelters barged to his house and detained him  while putting oxygen mask on her mother,” locals added.

Umar is pursuing MSC Mathematics from Kashmir University in south campus.

Police had assured family members of detained that they should come to Police station on Thursday evening and the youth will be released.

“When the family visited the PS in the evening they were not released,” locals said.
