Srinagar: The Kashmir Working Journalists Association (KWJA) expresses grief over the demise of senior journalist and author MaqboolSahil.
The KWJA said Maqbool was a prominent journalist and a poet, whose contribution to the profession, during the most testing times of Kashmir conflict can never be forgotten.
His books like Shabistan-e-Wajood—which fetched him Reporters Without Borders Prize in 2009–not only reflects his ordeal during his career as a journalist when he was sent to jail but is also an important account of contemporary history of Kashmir.
Maqbool had good command over Kashmiri, Urdu, Pahari and Dogri languages and he was currently associated with Kashmir Media Group.
KWJA paid tributes to Maqbool, whose demeanor despite his valuable contribution and experience was humble, also exhibited in his daily interactions with youngsters in the profession.
Maqbool according to his friends suffered a heart attack while walking in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar. He was found lying on the road and later shifted to hospital, where he was declared as brought dead.
