Srinagar: Militants escaped the cordon laid around by government forces after a brief exchange of fire in Hajin area of Bandipora District of Northern Kashmir on Friday.

Sources said that Army’s 13RR unit, 45 CRPF Battalion and SOG wing of J&K Police launched a Cordon and search operation in Khosa Mohalla of Hajin area in Bandipora district at around 3 AM following Specific inputs about presence of militants who were 2-3 in number in the area.

Sources said that militants and government forces exchanged gunfire briefly but militants took advantage of darkness and managed to escape from the area. House to house search were conducted in the area.

Clashes between protesters and government forces broke out in the area which was tear gassed.

Pertinently, the government forces have been of late facing tough time while carrying out anti-militancy operations in Hajin area.
