Pulwama: Pampore town in this south Kashmir district has a decades-old-library with around 10,000 books, but still runs from a rented building.
The Tehsil Public Library Pampore, according to the managing body, was established in 1981 and has been providing better services since then. The students of this town and other areas benefit from it.
Nowadays, the library has become home for students particularly those preparing for NEET and JEE benefit, the management said. The library also imparts video lectures to students through tabs.
The booklovers and students however rue that the paucity of space in the library is giving tough time to them as it functions from a private rented building.
“This library is our lifeline. It must be upgraded with a new building. There is less space for readers,” the bibliophiles told INS.
“Despite having 10,000 books and facilities like video lectures, the library has only two members to handle – the librarian and library bearer. The manpower should also be increased,” the students demanded.
Nisar Ahmad Lone, a librarian told INS that thousands of valuable books and other material including that for NEET and JEE is available in the library. He however lamented that the building is running from a rented building since decades.
When contacted, the District Officer Libraries and Research, Pulwama, Nusrat Jan told INS, “We have already brought the issue before concerned authorities who assured us of providing infrastructure for the library soon.”
