Kupwara: Out of 44, only one student has qualified the annual 10th class examination from the Government High School, Dardpora, Lolab in this north Kashmir’s frontier district forcing the parents of students to protest within the school premises on Thursday.
The class 10th results were declared on Tuesday.
Scores of locals including parents of students on Thursday morning assembled at the school premises and held protest demonstration against the education department and the concerned school staff.
They accused the teachers of the school of not showing any concern over the poor performance of the students. The parents also raised slogans against the government and CEO, Kupwara.
“Last year, 4 out of 52 students passed the matriculation examination and this year, just one. This is disgrace to the school,” Sarpanch Abdul Gafoor told INS.
“We will lock down the school if action is not taken against the school authorities,” he said.
The protesting parents said the school functions without permanent principal and the Zonal Educational Programming Officer (ZEPO) is given the additional charge of running the institution.
They urge the higher-ups and the native minister Abdul Haq Khan to take action as the institution.
ZEPO and in-charge principal of the school Mohammad Sultan Khan while talking to INS said he was given additional charge of 4 schools among which two have brought satisfactory results.
He said despite being a far-flung area, the Government High School, Dardpora was provided with mandatory staff.
“We are collecting the data and higher ups will take necessary action accordingly,” ZEPO said.
