Srinagar: Train service from Banihal to Nowgam Srinagar has been suspended on Monday in view of “apprehension” of protests by residents of Malangpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Official sources told INS that railway authorities’ decision to suspend the service followed a advisory by local administration to Chief Area Manager Northern Railways on the apprehensions of the ‘law and order’ problem in the area.
In the communication, sources said, the local authorities stated that in view of the protest demonstration programme of residents of Malangpora, there was apprehension of law and order problem in the area and as such requested the chief area manager to suspended the service from Srinagar (Nowgam) to Banihal and vice versa.
However, the train will chug on Srinagar-Budgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north as per schedule, they added.
