Baramulla: In this digital era, several villages of Uri in this north Kashmir district have no mobile connectivity.
The locals of the villages like Dardkote, Isham, Uroosa Govalta and Rawa Runda said they have time and again approached the local administration to start mobile connectivity in the area but to no avail.
“We even staged protest against authorities for not installing the mobile towers in our villages and blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road near LoC at Red Bridge but the administration is still unmoved,” they said.
“On one hand, the government is making huge claims of the ‘Digital India’, and on other side, it is closing eyes on our genuine demands. The mobile connectivity is still a dream for us,” Arfat Ahmad, a class 12th student told INS. “We feel cut off from the rest of the world.”
The locals said they approached the MLA Uri, Dr Sajad Ahmad and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla recently who “assured us that mobile towers will be installed in our villages very soon”.
“Let’s see how much time they (authorities) will take,” the villagers said.
