Jerusalem, Dec 22: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a UN vote to reject US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. He also thanked the nations that supported “the truth” by not voting for the resolution.
“Israel rejects the UN decision and, in parallel, expresses satisfaction at the large number of states that did not vote for the resolution, countries that Prime Minister Netanyahu has visited in Europe, Africa and Latin America,” a statement from Netanyahu’s office said after the vote.
India on Thursday joined 127 other countries to vote in the UN General Assembly in favour of a resolution opposing the recent decision of US President Donald Trump to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Trump on December 6 announced that he would recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv, triggering protests and strong condemnation from across the world.
The UN General Assembly on Thursday defied the US and overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning the Trump administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel s capital, calling on countries not to move their diplomatic missions to the city.
