Kupwara: Hundreds of vehicles were Monday stranded after the residents of Regipora, Handwara, blocked the Kupwara -Tangdhar highway to protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) and for failing to provide electricity supply to them.

The protesting residents assembled at the highway and blocked it for several hours while chanting anti-department slogans.

The protesting residents said that they are facing tremendous hardships in the month of December due to the non-availability of electricity from past several days. “We are being deprived of electricity from past couple of days. The department has miserably failed to provide electric supply to them as the transformer has damaged which was not even sent for repairing,” they said.

Eye-witnesses said that hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded after the residents of Regipora held a sit-in on the highway for several hours.
