Kupwara: Education set up in the government schools in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district is in shambles. Schools short of staff, DIET without a principle, teachers engaged in non teaching jobs at CEO’s office and un available Zonal Education Officer, depicts the grim picture of affairs.
A Primary school at Kashira has 2 teachers against more than 80 student’s and ‘recently one has been deployed as a BED trainee student,’ sources disclosed.
Sources also revealed that High School Manigah, Middle School Kashmiri Manigah, Primary School Kashira, High School Shrant Khumriyal, High School Gujran Dardpora , Middle School Juktiyal, Badnambal High School, are some of the schools, among dozen others who are short of teaching faculty.
“The additional charge of the Zonal Education Office, Drugmulla Zone, without an officer, has been given to the Principal Higher Secondary School Drugmulla,” sources said.
If sources are to be believed, schools in the upper regions too are reeling under shortage of Teaching staff.
“Intuitions within the ZEO Kupwara Zone also have shortage of teaching staff,” Zonal Education Officer, Kupwara, Fareed Ahmad Khan said.
District Institute of Educational Training DIET of the district is also working without a principal from several months.
Chief Education Officer Kupwara, Shafiq Nabi War confirmed to INS the problems faced by students in the district.
“Yes there are some schools in the district which are short of teaching staff,’’ War said.
In CEO’s office itself, according to sources, 3 Rehbar e Taleem teachers , one master and one lecturer has been engaged in a ‘non teaching office work’, while students suffer for the want of teachers and when asked, War denied any knowledge of ‘who’s who’ in his office.
