SOPORE : The Sanctorum College of Education in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, Kashmir University (DSW) held a one day long youth summit-2017 at Sanctorum college of education.

The Youth Summit was an initiative by ,’The Edge’- a group of young artists with media partners as ‘The Varmul Post’_ news weekly of North Kashmir.

 

A large number of participants from various colleges of Kashmir took part in this Youth Summit.

The colleges who participated in Youth Summit were Kashmir University, Government Degree College Baramula, KU North Campus and SSM College Of Engineering & Technology.

The Program consist of two segments_ Musical segment and Debate.
In musical segments performers presented solo songs, rap songs, Kashmiri song. Govt Degree College band left audiences with awestruck with their performances.

 

In next segment, an interactive session was held on diverse themes like Internet Gag, Brain Drain, Career Goals and Start Up Business, where JKNC Spokesperson Junai Azim Mattoo, Sheikh Amir Spokesperson Youth Congress, HOD Physics, GDC Baramulla Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, MS District Hospital Baramula Syed Masood replied to the queries posed by the audiences.

While replying to a query Junaid Azim Mattoo said, ,”Internet Gag is shame and disgusting. We must acknowledge our short comings and find out ways to restore law and order without gagging Internet. ”

 

Speaking on the occasion Sheikh Aamir highlighted the need for better understanding of issues like internet gag, migration of students to other states, brain drain and other related issues concerning youth in the context of prevailing political atmosphere.

“India, a young nation with a large chunk of young population should think with pragmatism regarding significance of this budding human resource towards achieving greater dividends. This is possible only when facilities are provided and issues like internet gag and brain drain are democratically addressed” Sheikh Aamir said while answering a query posed by a student from audience.

While interacting with the students and other prominent citizens, many issues were discussed and alternatives suggested by the youth leaders and other speakers.

The participants were enthralled by cultural performances like music and poetry presented by students of various colleges of the valley.

Professor Tariq Chalkoo while addressing the audience said that we need to excel in our fields and change our mindset in a positive way. We are no less than other but we have to compete.

Over 200 students from various colleges across valley participated in the debate and threw light on the different topics.

The participants showcased there talent and they showed variety of events.

 

The chief guest on the occasion, was the
Junaid Azim Mattu Spokesperson JKNC and Sheikh Amir Spokesperson of Youth Congress.

 

The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr. Irshad Ahmad Wani North Campus Kashmir University , Professor Murtaza Geelani, and Chairman of Cooperate Bank Majeed Ahmed Dar.

Chairman Sanctorum Institutes, Shakir Ashraf said on the brain drain, “Keeping political aspects aside we should seriously focus on the upliftment of the youth. the migration of Kashmiri youth to ousiside states is really worrisome process. We need to work out at the ground level to over come this challenge.”

Later, the Cheif guests gave away the awards among the winning participants.
Certificates and mementoes were given participants. The programme ended with vote of thanks presented by, Samaniya Bhat. The programme was anchored by Muniba Elahi and Sahil Muzaffar
