Srinagar: Life in Kashmir Valley was severely affected in view of the “civil curfew” and curbs imposed by government on Saturday.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for civil curfew against unabated braid chopping incidents in the Valley.
Reports said that all most all shops, private offices and other business establishments are closed due to the shutdown and restrictions within the jurisdiction of seven police stations in Downtown Srinagar.
According to the District Magistrate Srinagar, restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC remained in force under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, M R Gunj, Safakadal, Kralkhud and Maisuma in this summer capital of the state as a “precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.”
Skeletal public and private transport was seen plying on all the major roads and highways across the Valley.
Railway authorities also suspended train service between Banihal and Baramulla as “precautionary measure.”
“There are apprehensions of law and order disturbances in the Valley in view of the strike call,” an official of the railway said.
The resistance camp had said that assault on modesty and dignity of women was intolerable as they called for ‘civil curfew’ in state on weekend.
Resistance leaders strongly condemned the assault on women and said that these attacks are now becoming more alarming and dangerous as even male members of families are being attacked by these criminals.  If not halted immediately, they said, it will take an ugly turn and may consume more human lives.
“Police is very swift while arresting the wanted persons and even catch hold innocents Kashmiris from Jammu and outside states,” resistance leaders said, adding that these braid choppers are carrying their devilish game under their nose. “However police is maintaining their criminal silence over such inhuman activities carried by criminals.”
Reiterating their appeal, the leaders have asked people to handover these suspicious elements to trustworthy persons or local Masjid committees for onward action and said that they in no case should punish them.
Kashmir University also postponed all examinations scheduled on Saturday.
