Braid chopping: first such case in Sopore

Sriangar:  As a first incident of braid cutting in Sopore, a woman was attacked by unknown persons at her residence in Seer Jagir area of apple town on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Afrooza begum wife of Zahoor Ahmad resident of Seer Jagir Sopore.

She was rushed to Sub District Hospital Sopore for treatment.

Station House Officer, Police Station Tarzoo said that they have reached the spot and investigation has been taken up.

Protests erupted in old city Srinagar over alleged braid chopping in the area.

Residents of Karfali Mohalla and Nawab Bazar, mostly women took to streets and raised anti government, anti police slogans.

In Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, at around 6 am, unknown persons chopped the braid of a teenage girl in Arahma village.

Protests erupted in the area over the incident.
In another incident, an 8th standard Girl’s hair was chopped at her home in Usman Abad area.
Identified as 14 years Momin jan D/O Mohd. Maqbool Taploo R/O Usman Abad-B Umerhare Srinagar.

According the girl: “when I entered the bed room two persons were already present inside the room”.

Soon after the incident soura Police rushed to the spot and started investigation into the matter.
