Srinagar: Members of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) Monday staged sit-in-demonstration inside Pratap Park here in Srinagar in support of their president Mohammad Yaseen Khan who has been summoned by the National Investigation Agency to its headquarters
in New Delhi.
Scores of traders from different districts and tehsils assembled inside the park soon after Khan flew to New Delhi to produce himself before National Investigating Agency (NIA).
Khan, according to protesters, flew to New Delhi at 7 am and was accompanied by three other members of the association.
The KTMF members wore black arm bands in protest during the sit-in. They alleged that Khan was
summoned to New Delhi because he has been maintaining his stance regarding Jammu and Kashmir by calling it a disputed territory.
“As far as the NIA notice is concerned our president has been called to appear as a witness but not as accused. I believe if NIA wanted to record his statement they could have done it in Srinagar,” one of the
speaker told gathering.
He alleged, “NIA want to pressure him so that he does not speak for traders.”
The NIA filed a case of alleged funding for “subversive activities in J&K” on May 30. Seven Hurriyat Conference leaders, a top businessman, a photojournalist and a farmer have been arrested in the case so far, and many others have been questioned.
