Chairman of the International Union of Islamic Scholars, Yusuf al Qaradawi, 91, has been removed from Interpol’s online wanted list. He was wanted for committing robbery, arson and murder, after Egypt’s 2013 military coup.
Qaradawi, due to his influence is also called the ‘Global Mufti’. He is an Egyptian, lives in exile in Qatar.
All the alleged crimes were later found to be fabricated as they occurred during his absence from Egypt, and could not have credibly been committed by someone of his age and reputation, the Arab Organisation for Human Rights (AOHR) in the UK said in a statement, as reported by Aljazeera, on Sunday.
