Srinagar: A Lashker-e-Toiba militant was killed in an encounter with government forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on first day of Eid-ul-Azha on Saturday.
A police official said that army’s 62 Rashtraiya Riffles and Special Operation Group of polic cordoned off Tantraypora village of Bihibagh area of the district after specific inputs about the presence of militants.
The forces were zeroing in, the official said, an encounter started and in the brief fire fight, LeT’s Ishfaq Ahmad Padder, a resident of Machiwa Yaripora in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, was killed.
According to police Ishfaq was involved in the killing of Lt Umar Fayaz and in bank roberies.
