Srinagar: Members of Kashmir Contractual Workers Union (KCWU) staged a protest demonstration against the state government for its failure to implement Labour laws
“Apathy of the government towards the working class is appalling. Gov is not serious about the implementation of the labour laws in letter and spirit,” protesters said.
Mohammad Afzal of KCWU told INS that due to the non-implementation of the labor laws on ground, a large number of workers and laborers do not receive the financial support and other due benefits by the J&K Labour Department.
“The process of registration has been made tedious and thus the benefits like scholarship to children, marriage assistance to daughters and financial support in cases of death and diseases are not availed,” Afzal said.
The protesters demanded that government should immediately appoint Chief Executive Officer of the Construction Welfare Board which is presently headless for the smooth functioning of the board.
