Baramulla: Family of an elderly man killed in Delina area of Baramulla district have accused police of deliberately driving over him after they resisted police trying to bundle their son in a vehicle.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Aziz Ahanger, 60, resident of Delina area.

“Our son went out with a friend, and suddenly we heard him cry ‘mother’. We ran out and saw dozens of police men beating him and bundling him in the vehicle,” wife of Ahanger told reporters in a makeshift tent, where mourners had gathered.

According to her they resisted the police move to arrest their son pleading to let their son go.

“They threw my son away and police drove over my husband,” she said.

She also added that police is asking them to change the statement and say that ‘Ahanger died in an accident’.

“They beat me, my daughter and now police is telling us to say that he died in an accident. How can I say that,” she complained.

According to police  Ahanger died after hit by vehicle on late Wednesday night, the driver of Police vehicle was arrested and a case was also registered in this regard.

Meanwhile a complete shutdown is being observed in Delina village , while authorities suspended internet services and railway services in Baramulla as a precautionary measure.
