Srinagar August 28th: Scores of undergraduate students today protested against Kashmir University for the delay in the conduct of their examinations.
The students raised slogans against Kashmir University and J&K education Minister Altaf Bukhari.
Protesting students demanded that KU must conduct their examinations on time to save their ‘future’.
“We have enrolled for the three year degree course back in 2015 but after the passage of two years we are still stuck in fourth semester. Going by this pace we will complete our degrees in November 2018 which would mean one extra academic year,” Asim Ahmad one of the protesting students said.
He said that earlier a circular was issued by the Kashmir University which said that their degrees would be completed by April 2018. However inordinate delay is being done in the timely conduct of their examinations.
“We have to appear in the entrance examinations for our post graduation within and outside the state and thus we demand timely completion of our degrees to be able to sit in these examinations on time,” Shakeel Mukhtar another protesting student said.
The protesting students demanded that that Kashmir University should either combine two semesters or skip one semester of their course to save their precious time.
The students ‘threatened to launch valley wide protests if their demands are not met before the 10th of next month.’
When contacted Controller Examinations KU, Professor AR Bhat told INS that, ‘he is chairing a meeting regarding the same and the issue is being discussed thoroughly.’
“We will sort out the issue soon,” Bhat said before hanging the line.
Protesting students urged education minister, Altaf Bukhari, to intervene personally in the matter.
