Srinagar August 21:

Jammu and Kashmir Civil Sociey members on Monday demanded an ‘urgent special session of the legislative Assembly and Legislative council to pass a resolution in ‘defense of Article 35-A and Article 370.

 

Addressing a press conference held in a local hotel here JKCS asked pro unionist parties to ‘reaffirm their political resolve in defense of Article  35-A and Article 370.

“We welcome the stand taken by National Conference for they have called for the special session of Legislative Assembly. We hope that Peoples Democratic Party, Communist Party of India (M), Peoples Conference and others will follow the suit,” Advocate GN Shaheen said.

 

In the view of the discussion and debates on the abrogation of Article 35-A the members of the coordination community said” that they have chosen a name “We The People of Jammu and Kashmir” and decided to call upon the several concerned to submit a memorandum of appeal to sensitize the political opinion.”

 

“We The People of Jammu and Kashmir irrespective of political beliefs, religions, denominations, geographical destinations and ethnic classification are united in defense of the protection of article 35-A and 370 till final settlement of Jammu and Kashmir dispute,” the statement issued to the media said.

“It is a crucial week for all of us and we will meet people of Ladakh and Jammu as well to mobilize them to save the special status of the state,” Muzafar Hussain Shah, chief of Awami National Conference said.

Adv Mohammad Ismayeel, from Ladakh said that people in Kargil and Leh are equally concerned about the abrogation of Article 35-A, “they know that if it is removed there identity will be lost forever.”
