Srinagar: Delays are likely to mar installation of intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in this summer capital of the state.
Official sources said that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation told the Jammu and Kashmir High Court earlier this week that Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) was contracted for providing ITMS for Srinagar. However, the the court was informed that the company was not executing the contract and the SMC has now to take a call on whether they want to continue with that firm or look for alternative arrangements.
Sources said that the initial plan involves installing traffic violation cameras at several locations across the city. This will enable the traffic police to check traffic snarls especially during during peak hours.
Photographs of vehicles creating traffic jams would be taken and challans sent to the registered addresses.
The high court has already asked the SMC that putting in place the ITMS, the modern way of using technology for traffic management, is of “prime importance”.
The installation of ITMS all across the city has been suggested among ten points by SSP Srinagar to alleviate traffic woes in the City.
One others, the SSP has stressed that there should be complete removal of road encroachments by the SMC, be it vendors or on road display of goods by shopkeepers.
The officer has also called for segregation of Inter City and Intra City Transport including Buses, Sumos, Taveras and 407 Type vehicles.
The SSP has also called for expediting the construction work at Cement Bridge Qamerwari , with a set deadline.
