Srinagar: Director General of Police on Thursday asked personnel to be polite with common who seek help and assistance from the police.
Speaking at a police darbar at Range Police Headquarters here , the DGP also praised the police for investigation in the murder deputy SP Mohammad Ayub Pandith. The top police officer also impressed upon the men and officers to enhance their investigation skills and bring the criminals to book.
Highlighting the role of Police in tackling the situation in Srinagar, the DGP said that all measures must be taken to keep the militancy and “law & order” incident to a minimum in Srinagar city.
The DGP advised the police personnel to take good care of their health and also take all precautions to protect themselves from militant attacks and stone pelting when they are out on duty.
He said that bullet proof vehicles and protective gears should be put to maximum use and also care should be taken of the weapons allotted to them.
He also thanked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for increasing the ex-gratia relief “substantially” from Rs. 7 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs to the kins of policemen killed in the state. He also thanked the CM for creation of J&K Police Service Cadre for Gazetted officers of J&K Police.
“The present dispensation in the government has been kind enough to consider favourably the proposals of PHQ and hoped that the other proposals with regard to opening of promotion avenues of Inspectors, SIs,ASIs and HCs will also be looked into favourably,’ he said.
Referring to the welfare measures, the DGP said that an amount of Rs. 21 crore has been disbursed among the police personnel as welfare relief and loan and about Rs. One crore has been disbursed as welfare relief/loan among the SPOs.
Later talking to press on the sidelines of the darbar, the DGP said that efforts of the police to wean away the youth from militancy will continue “so that all those who wish to live an honourable life, would be saved from death and destruction.”
 In response to a question, the DGP said that some measures have been taken to thwart the incidents of weapon snatching, “which are bearing results.”
