Major among 2 Army troopers killed in Shopian

Srinagar: Two Army troopers including a Major were Thursday killed in a gunfight that raged between forces and militants in Zaipora, Matribugh village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Defence Spokesman, Colonial Rajesh Kalia told admitted the killing of two Army troopers.
The two slain Army troopers were identified as Major Kamlesh Panday of Almora Uttrakhand and soldier Tenzin Chhultim of Lahaul Spiti, Himachal Pradesh.
The slain Army officer and the soldier were injured during initial exchange of fire.
Sources said that they were airlifted to Srinagar Army hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Meanwhile reports said that another Army trooper is being treated at the hospital at Badamibagh, who they identified as Kripal Singh.
Meanwhile, officials said that the militants who were trapped in the village fled from the spot.
They said that the search operation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Army later bids farewell to the slain troopers including a Major killed in the militant action at Shopian.
According to the statement issued to KNS, a wreath-laying ceremony was organised in BB Cant here in the honour of two slain troopers, which was attended by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, the Chinar Corps Commander Lt JS Sandhu and other top officials.
They also paid tributes to the slain soldiers, the statement added. (KNS)
